Well, this is the new website I've been working on for quite some time! First of all, sorry for letting that old website just sit there doing nothing. I had no intention of going through the hassle of updating it until I got this thing up. One of the main things I wanted to do was to have the "Ramblings" section database driven, so I could have an archive of all of the old ramblings that is searchable, etc. I've added 2 years worth of ramblings so far, and hopefully soon I will be adding more years. It's been pretty crazy going through what are basically journal entries from 6 years ago, and I'm glad that they survived a bunch of computer changes and hard drive formats. The very first 4 or 5 rambling entries were lost years ago unfortunately. I also added an RSS feed for the ramblings on the left. The main page's list of website "updates" will also soon have it's own RSS feed, and I'm debating on whether or not to make one for the "images" section. The second big thing I wanted to do was to have an images section with a web interface that I could upload images with. Previously, I had to resize all the images, save them, make an html file for each one and then upload the whole thing. That made sense back in 1999 when I designed the website, but it's quite a hassle now. Now I can upload images and create galleries pretty fast, which will hopefully let me share pictures faster.. and there are quite a few that I have to put up! I reorganized stuff quite a bit. There is now a "building" section for some of the building/programming projects I've done. There are a few new ones in there that weren't on the old site. It's slightly confusing because the "images" section also has a category for building projects, but not all of them are listed... since most of them don't warrant a whole gallery set of pictures. The "urban exploration" section of the website is just all the images in that category. The reason it appears on the main menu is that it will be a section I will (and have) been concentrating on. There are some new pictures in this section as well, and I have quite a few more to upload still! Oh yes, the Forum is back and running! It was down for about half a year.. my apologies! During that time, the site changed servers and the databases had to be moved around.. then I started working on the new website and decided to wait until I had the forum encorporated into the new website before I put it back up. Sorry about that.. Tomorrow (Technically today), I'm heading out to New York for a week! I'll be attending HOPE (Hackers On Planet Earth) Number 6, a conference I've wanted to go to for a few years now. Thanks to the Cross Canada bike ride (which I survived in case anyone was worried), I'm now pretty good at planning trips and doing them for minimal amounts of money. Of course I'll have a few cameras with me, so expect pictures when I get home now that I can upload them easily! Thanks again to Sean for hosting this website! I now have a lot more space, so I'll be putting up a lot more audio/video! Previously, I had to stash those large files on the University's SOCR server. Now that I can properly host them here, I'll be posting some really old mp3's and such. Sean is riding his bike from Tofino to the Yukon with his super-cute girlfriend.. you can read about it here! TODO - tweak the CSS to make the site look better! (any suggestions?)- add the rest of the old images and new images. - add all "The Moon Patrol" mp3's, artwork, etc. - add the rest of the Ramblings archive - make pages like building and audio not look as boring. - rss feeds for main page updates. - video section. - copy all the Cross Canada stuff from the dedicated wordpress site into this site I'm really looking for some feedback regarding this new site, especially the whole asthetics of it (but please, don't recommend rounded corners or gradients). Feel free to email me or post something in the Forum... peace. |
